A good romance writer tries to put herself in the shoes of her characters to imagine and write from their perspective. Jennifer Comeaux does it beautifully in her book. Her story is set in the world of ice skating. Though she doesn’t live anywhere near an ice rink, she is able to capture the atmosphere of a skating rink and skating competition perfectly. The story has all the ingredients which are necessary for a romance novel. The love story unfolds with the ice skating competition as the backdrop. This makes it quite unique. Most love stories have the same formula of the hero and heroine falling in love and after some obstacles manage to get together and the story has a happy ending. Readers who read romance novels know what to expect in a love story. What they want is an unusual setting and an interesting characterization. Readers want to identify with the characters but at the same time want the characters to be different and interesting. If a writer writes about people who seem to have everything and have no real problems then, the readers find it difficult to connect even if the story is good. Jennifer has the ability to write about a heroine who is smart, funny, brave, and much more and yet very endearing and easy to identify with. Right here she also creates the conflict between the leading pair in an unusual way. Instead of getting attracted to each other at a party or in any other social setting, the pair meets and falls in love while competing against each other in an ice skating competition. This makes the novel a refreshing read for the readers. There are so many romance novels in the market and an equally large number of romance novel writers as well. It is only a few who can combine the usual ingredients and turn it into a best seller. It is the same formula but presented in a new and unique way.
